Monday 3/31 Show why formula for area of a circle (a=pi*r*r) works.

Friday 3/27 Relating area, circumference, diameter, and radius. Students discover why Pi is the constant which relates these measures of a circle.

Last week's work focused on the area and perimeter of parallelograms. The formula for the area is a=bh.

Tuesday 3/11 Creating a family of triangles. Triangle families are triangles that all have the same area.

Monday 3/10 Using the formula A=1/2bh to find area of a triangle. Students will experiment with the three bases and corresponding heights to see if there is an 'easier' one to use.

Friday 3/7 Finding perimeter and area of triangles. Students need to recognize that a triangles area is half of the rectangle that holds it. Also, the long side of a right triangle can only be found by measuring.

Understanding area and perimeter. Recognizing that area is "covering" and perimeter is "surrounding" Watch that students don't think of area as "inside" and perimeter as "outside" as this is very misleading.
