Tuesday 4/1 Practice finding radius, area and circumference Monday 3/31 Show why formula for area of a circle (a=pi*r*r) works. Friday 3/27 Relating area, circumference, diameter, and radius. Students discover why Pi is the constant which relates these measures of a circle. Last week's work focused on the area and perimeter of parallelograms. The formula for the area is a=bh.
Wednesday Selected questions from homework section as review/reinforcement Tuesday 3/11 Creating a family of triangles. Triangle families are triangles that all have the same area. Monday 3/10 Using the formula A=1/2bh to find area of a triangle. Students will experiment with the three bases and corresponding heights to see if there is an 'easier' one to use. Friday 3/7 Finding perimeter and area of triangles. Students need to recognize that a triangles area is half of the rectangle that holds it. Also, the long side of a right triangle can only be found by measuring. Thursday 3/6 finding Area and perimeter of rectangles.Some fixed perimeter problems as well. Thursday 2/21 Three problems were extra work on area/perimeter. Wednesday 2/20 Using five-block shapes (pentominos) to find relationship between between added squares, perimeter and area. Tuesday 2/19 Discover the relationsahip between fixed perimeter and area. Friday 2/15 Using knowledge of area and perimeter to solve real-world problems. Monday 2/11 Students needed to find all rectangles with area of 24. Then make table and identify max and min perimeter. Thursday 1/31 Practice finding area and perimeter. Students should be able to articulate formulae for both.
Tuesday 1/29 Each student had 3/4 other students edit their 3 paragraph response to text papers. The papers are about a news article concerning the postive influence of homework and how parents cn help their children cope with homework. Monday 1/28 Create the algebraic formulae for perimter (p=2l+2w) and area (a=l*w) Tuesday-Thursday 1/22-1/24 Understanding area and perimeter. Recognizing that area is "covering" and perimeter is "surrounding" Watch that students don't think of area as "inside" and perimeter as "outside" as this is very misleading.
