Slavery Project

Due December 16

Over the next three weeks we will be working on an in depth study of slavery and the writing that stems from this time in our history. Each project will display/reflect the following requirements:

  1. History of slavery

You should examine when, where, why, how…slavery began. Your research should also include the abolitionist movement.

  1. Slave narratives

Slave narratives are a powerful way to gain insight into the world of slavery. You should include excerpts of slave narratives in your project.

  1. Poetry and songs

Your project should include both poetry and songs written by and or about slavery. You research should include why songs were so significant to slaves.

  1. Histories of abolitionists

You project should include significant people in the antislavery movement.

  1. Representations of art/paintings

Your project should include art/paintings that are reflective of this time period.

  1. Works cited page

Please remember to include a works cited page with your project indicating where your information came from.

  1. Reflective piece

This is the final piece to the project. The product can be an essay, though it doesn’t need to be. The piece should reflect your feelings about the topic that you have researched.

I know that you would like to know the form in which you are to present these, however I am remaining purposefully vague to allow you ownership of this project. You can create a video, book, poster…anything is really possible as long as the requirement is reflected in the project.
