Warm-Up Activity

An Encounter

You enter a building or compartment and sit down. You might be in a waiting room, hotel lobby, train, a café, etc. Write about your surroundings, why you are there, and how you are feeling. Remember to use a many details as possible.

Someone comes and sits beside you or near you. It might be someone you know or a stranger. You can see this person is feeling very strongly about something – excited, worried, or upset, for example. What do you have to say to this person and what might he/she say to you? How do things develop between you? Take the next 10-15 minutes to write about this.
