An Incredible Experience

Chelsea Harvey

That night I couldn’t fall asleep. I slept some but I was I was way too anxious and impatient for the event that was going to come. We went to bed early so we could get to Montreal on time for the concert. We were going to the Vans Warped Tour concert for the second time. I was not in my room or my home but it felt comfortable maybe because of being there numerous times. I was at my friend Rachelle’s house. I hadn’t been over there since school got out. I missed being there. I lay awake on the squishy cushion chair that rolled out into a bed, my body sunk to the floor. My toes peeked out of the fleece blanket that was snug against my face. The room smelt like fruit and candy that was from the lotion and perfume that came from the closet. The aroma sweetened the air. The house felt muted. My eyes wondered curiously around the room just to waste some time. The room was crammed with photos of the summer and posters of adored musicians. The time was unknown since there was not a clock in the room, which really irritated me. The sky was still dark but it was starting to light up a bit. In the distance a dim light came up behind the mountains.

Soon it was morning and everyone was alert and ready. Rachelle and I put on our clothes that were picked out a month before the concert. We did a couple of last minute things packed the car and we were off. On the way there we picked another friend, Kate who came along with us. We were finally on our way. The car ride felt like it was never going to end probably because we had been planning to go since the beginning of summer vacation. We slept a little and the rest of the time we sang along to music, which made the ride feel much faster, but it still took forever.  We went prepared and brought facemasks that were crucial to bring because we inhaled the stomped on dust. Once we got to about the borderline was we started to slow down. We quickly put on our makeup because we were almost there.

“ Mom,” Rachelle spoke up right before we came to the officer. “ I forgot my birth certificate.”

“WHAT!” “How come you didn’t tell me sooner.” Rachelle’s mom Shelly replied.

We were there. We calmly approached the officer and answered all of his questions and he let us go. Luckily he didn’t ask for our birth certificates. Rachelle shrugged and tried to pretend she wasn’t there. We all signed with relief. From that point on it we were happier and very giddy because we were almost there. We were going to warped tour. We went wild, wilder then wild animals could ever be. We were there and we all screamed. The concert that we had been waiting for all summer was right in front of us.  I couldn’t believe it.

Shelly parked the car and I ripped my legs off of the car seats and bounced out with joy and excitement. We danced around while we got all our belongings out. We made a quick stop to the bathroom. As we went in the smell swept through our noses and our faces shriveled with disgust. Toilet paper was on the floor that made sick. There were urinals in the bathroom that Rachelle and I thought was unusual to what we had been use too. We went out and waited for Kate and Shelly to get done because we couldn’t bear the stench. We wandered around and found another bathroom that had a sign on the door that said GIRL’S on it. Rachelle and I thought that it was hilarious and laughed. Kate and Shelly were actually in the BOY’ S bathroom.

Rachelle and I pointed at Shelly and Kate once they got out.

“You where in the boys bathroom,” we both giggled.

They were embarrassed and chuckled back. We got out a laughed our way to the concert line.

We stood in the never-ending line, for which it seemed. The hot sizzling sun beamed down. Some more of our friends came and got in line with us. We were scorching hot that made us uncomfortable and sticky. In no time we got our tickets and went through the gate. I was finally there I felt like

There was at least four large stages, we went to one and listened to the band that was playing. The audience went crazy and people started to mosh. The crowd was intense and we wanted to get up to the front, we slithered through the people and amazingly, we got to the front row. We sang along and jumped up and down. We did not stop the whole time, later on in the day the dirt swarmed through the air making it hard to breathe because there was no fresh air. Are legs were tired and our throats hurt from screaming. We left when everyone stopped playing and it was dark it was about nine o clock or so. We packed up and brought all of our treasures with home with us. While crossing the bridge home we gazed with amazement at the stunning view, it was gorgeous. Lights were along the bridge that reflected into the water. We chattered about the great time we had and all of the things that we got from going to the concert. We fell asleep and were awoken by the extremely bright lights by the borderline going back to Vermont. We talked about how much fun it was and we all hoped to go next year. We had an awesome time and knew that we would have fantastic memories forever. It was a experience that I will never forget.
