Getting Married

Narrative

Megan Domey

I was four and he was nine when we got married. I was at day care he was at Grams. We were not the only ones there. Connie’s grand kids were all there. Unexpectedly somebody said, “let’s play house”.  The older kids objected so then I said “know what I did this weekend? I was the flower girl in my aunts wedding”. Debbie then said, “I know, lets have a wedding.”  It took us about five minutes to figure out who would be the bride and groom and came up with the youngest and the oldest. All the kids took part in the wedding.  My grooms name was Greg. We had his younger brother Geoff marry us. Greg’s youngest brother Glen was the ring bearer. My groom’s cousin Debbie (who is also one of my best friends) was the maid of honor and her younger brother Dan was the other ring bearer.

Debbie asked her grandmother if she had a wedding dress and she said no but we ended up finding a cute little pink dress with ruffles on the bottom. It fit me perfectly I felt like a princess. I got the dress on I had to have my hair done and we had to find me a veil. My maid of honor did my hair in a beautiful bun. We found some curtains that were lace and decided they were as close as we were going to get to a veil. Now I was all set. My groom had found a tie and put it on. Greg’s tie was blue and he had on one of his grandfathers yellow shirts. We were a funny looking couple and we will always laugh about our clothes.

We told Geoff that we were ready. Now all we needed was a place for the ceremony. We soon chose the living room, as it was the biggest roomin the house. Everyone entered the living room. Soon I could see the stained wood floor and the couches to the right with covers of wishing wells. The wallpaper of flowers soon seemed very appropriate for the event. Soon our chapel was ready.  We set the living room up with the couches facing the front of the room and a desk in the front. Everyone in the ceremony lined up near the window and one by one we walked in to the living room as we hummed the marriage song.  My wedding party entered the chapel, first Danny then glen and then Deb and I stood there in line waiting impatiently for my turn. Soon Deb motioned that it was my turn. As I started down, in front of me I could see every one lined up like in a real wedding and the desk up front acting like a pulpit with Geoff standing behind it. I finally reached the front of the room and we started the ceremony. Geoff began with “we are gathered here today to marry Greg MaCavoy and Megan Domey in holy matrimony.” I looked at my Groom who was smiling and I remember thinking how much I liked him and how I’m sure he was just doing this so he wasn’t board. So Geoff went on and said do you take him for the rest of your life and I replied, “I DO”. Next he asked Greg the same question and Greg said, “I do”. Geoff pronounced us man and wife and then everyone started humming the wedding song as we all exited the living room.

Soon the wedding was over and we had to have a reception. The wedding party went through the house and out the front door to where the paved driveway had the sun beating on it and was extremely hot because it was 80 degrees outside. The wedding party stepped out and started to dance. I soon realized that I was a lot smaller than Greg was so I said to him “I’m really short”. He replied back with “that doesn’t matter” and soon he picked me up and asked “ is that better?” Then Connie’s voice yelled out the windows that launch was ready so we all ran into the house. Connie said “the wedding party may sit at the table here” and so everyone sat down. Next Connie stated “for lunch today we will be having macaroni and cheese” everyone clapped. Connie went into the kitchen and brought out everyone’s lunch then said “Enjoy” with an Italian accent. We ate and soon it was time for my nap and when I woke up Greg and I wouldn’t be a married couple anymore.

The wedding was over and the marriage of Greg MaCavoy and Megan Domey was no longer. As the years went on Greg got a girlfriend and I was so jealous. I remember seeing a picture of him and his girlfriend and thinking, oh well I know it was just pretend.  To today Greg is still my first husband and whenever we get together we sit around and laugh about our wedding. It was just something to do for Greg but to me It will always be my first wedding.
