    Notes from Nurse Alice

The importance of Double Testing for Covid-19

As we all know it is advised that anyone with any symptoms of Covid-19 (even mild symptoms) test as soon as symptoms begin. Unfortunately, we have had several cases of someone with a Covid-19 infection receiving a ‘false’ negative result with an at-home antigen rapid test.

  • The test did not detect the virus, but doesn’t rule out an infection. Look in the blue box.

For this reason, the CDC is now recommending that anyone with symptoms take not just one, but TWO tests 24 to 48 hours apart. To aid in this effort, the Nurses office will be handing out additional tests to Twinfield families with symptoms. For tests please email [email protected]

There are several new Covid-19 school guidelines that have been released from the Vermont Department of Health and the Vermont Agency of Education.

Students with a possible exposure to a person with COVID-19 do not need to quarantine regardless of vaccination status. Monitor your child for symptoms of COVID-19

If your child develops any symptoms of COVID-19, keep them home from school and test for Covid-19.

If they test positive, keep your child home and follow the steps in What to Do if You Test Positive for COVID-19

If they test negative (two tests taken at least 24 hours apart), please keep them home until:
- Symptoms have improved
- They have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.

If your child is unvaccinated:

- It is recommended that they test on day 5 after exposure
- If they develop symptoms at anytime, consider immediate testing for Covid-19

If you would like a test kit (with 2 antigen tests) for your child, please contact Nurse Alice at [email protected]

Please call Twinfield Union School with any questions or concerns about this situation. Please call the Vermont Department of Health at 802-863-7240 (option 8) if you have questions about COVID-19. More information is available at the Health Department website:

Thank you for working to help keep our school safe.

There is no more walk-in testing behind the Burger King in Barre because it was creating too many traffic problems on the highway although testing by appointment is still happening here.
